what I wish my essay could start with...
In a time of war, the Romans would put the democratic system on hold by passing absolute power onto one individual. The Romans did so because they understood the cardinal flaw of democracy; it cannot react swiftly to crisis. Today, we are faced with the same reality. Democracy is so cumbersome when in action because all the measures taken to ensure that power is given to the people, and that all the voices of a nation are heard, end up stunting the ability of the country to take action. Imagine a small college boy who has to call his mother and consult regarding every decision he makes. This would ultimately lead to missed opportunities, and crushed hopes, and permanent virginity. In similar respects, countries such as the United States and Canada are forced into indecisiveness. However, it is also clear that different governments suffer different degrees of indecisiveness. To gain a clear idea of the pros and cons of different democratic systems, the electoral processes of Canada and the United States will be analyzed.

New Monkey
"...monkeys do not talk, because they know that if they utter even a single word some man will come and put them to work."
Speaking your mind is a huge risk. When we speak our thoughts we we strip ourselves naked of all pretenses. We turn ourselves inside out for the world to see our vulnerability. I admire those who are able to do this candidly.
Many have said that language allows us to understand the world without becoming completely overwhelmed by it. I find language in itself completely overwhelming.

Misunderstood
Have you ever been forced to wear ridiculous jumpers and eat sub-par crushed fruit mix three meals a day? Seriously. The calamity involved with being an infant makes adolescent angst seem petty and foolish. The baby is the only truly misunderstood member of society.
Have you ever wondered why a baby cries when it's born? It's because it's the only naked person in a room full of clothed giants. Being born would be like waking up to find yourself completely nude in a room with Shaquille O'Neal and the Hulk.
I think it's safe to say we would all burst into tears in such a situation.
I want you to imagine having no means by which to communicate any thoughts you may have. Us teenagers are actually quite lucky, we have words with which you can convey our emotions. Babies on the other hand are limited to shouting and crying as their only methods of self preservation.
So cheer up.
